This club is for everyone who is interested in the martial art of Capoeira. Capoeira is a 400 year-old Afro-Brazilian art that includes fight, self-defence, dance, acrobatics, and music. The African slaves had to create a type of martial art to fight for freedom. The Brazilian government and slave-masters outlawed any practice of martial arts amongst the slaves and so the fight was hidden as a dance. Only in 1930s was the ban on Capoeira lifted, and in 1974, it was recognised as the national sport of Brazil.
At Bond University, the teacher is Luizinho Barravento who is a world renowned Capoeira master from Brazil. Bring along comfortable clothes, water, and a small towel. Beginners are welcome!
We meet at the Yoga Room every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5pm.
